The Literary Divas was formed by five women in 1998. The concept of the book club was created by Leslie Billinger, Eva Davis, Tammy Dickerson, Paula Moss and Karen Neal. Once a group of single women, the club has grown to 20 women; some with husbands, children and pets. The Literary Divas are an inter-generational group of women who meet once per month. Books are chosen by the hostess of each meeting. The hostess is responsible for book selection, meal preparation and leading the discussion for the meeting. The hostess spends multiple hours planning book club meetings so members are encouraged to attend the meetings even in the absence of reading the book!
As a hostess, many women send beautiful handmade invitations to each member encouraging the women to get excited about the months book selection. Some ladies get creative by hosting meetings at tea houses, parks, playhouses and dance studios. On special occassions, authors are invited to discuss their books and provide the divas with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the selection.
After five years, the literary divas remains a strong group of diverse women. There is something very special that brings this unique group of women together every month. Together, the divas inspire and encourage each other to be their very best!
